PEOPLE WHO GIVE ....

Giving Time

Many people live lives which are very busy.
Jesus says: ‘Come to me all who are tired and have heavy loads and I will give you rest... accept my teachings and learn from me.. the load I give you to carry is light.’ (Matthew 11: 28-30)

Opportunities to give time...
Giving time to God so that you can build a stronger friendship
Spending quality time with family or friends
Taking a while longer to listen to your neighbours
Helping out with a task as part of church

A prayer:
Thank you for the gift of time.
Show me how I can share my time well.
Help me to really be there when I spend time with others.
Amen

Giving Money

Many people live lives which are about how much money you have and new things you can buy.
‘All the first followers of Jesus were together and shared everything. They would sell their land and the things they owned and then divide the money and give to anyone who needed it.’ (Acts 12: 44-45)

Opportunities to give money..

Think about giving regularly to the church or a charity
What about lending someone something that would really help them out?
When you know of a need – think ‘could God use me to help’?

Prayer:
Loving God,
Thank you for the money and things you have given me.
Help me not to hold on too tightly to money and things.
Help me to see how they can help others.
Amen

Giving & Prayer

Prayer is how we ask God to be part of our everyday world.
‘Ask and God will give to you. Search and you will find. Knock and the door will be open to you.’ (Luke11:9)

What about....?
Praying each day for a few people close to you
When someone has a problem saying that you will pray for them.. and praying for them
As you are watching the news praying for people in need and the leaders of the world.
Spending a little time in quiet to allow God a chance to speak too!

Prayer:
Loving God, thank you that I can talk to you about anything at any time.
Help me to speak to you and to listen to you.
Help me to keep praying when nothing seems to be happening.
Amen

Giving Care

‘I was alone and away from home and you invited me into your house. I was without clothes and you gave me something to wear.’ (Matthew 25: 35 & 36)
Small acts of kindness can make a world of difference to people in need.

Opportunities to give care
Who do you know who is lonely – how could you brighten their day?
Who could you invite into your home?
What things could you donate to a charity shop to help others?

Prayer
Loving God, thank you that everyone matters to you.
Help me to notice people who need help.
Make me brave to be your helper.
Amen

Giving Talents

‘there are different kinds of gifts but all from the same Spirit’ (1 Corinthians 12:4)
God makes us all different with special things we can each do – he wants us to work together as part of his team – the Church.

Suggestions:
Take some time to think and pray about what part in God’s team you can play.
Is there a way you could use what you are good at to help others?

Remember that doing your best in all you do everyday makes God happy

Prayer
Loving God, help me to be Ok with who I am and not to try to be like everyone else.
Show me how I can really be part of your team – the church!
Amen
