Draw closer to Jesus by accompanying him through the events of Holy Week to
their joyful climax at Easter! Holy Week is the most important
week of the Christian year and the Liturgy of Holy Week is like a four act
drama which, although we may feel that we know the story, needs to be
experienced in its entirety if it is to have its full effect. In
addition to the main services, other things are also on offer to help us to get
the very best from this special time. Please ask a member of the
Ministry Leadership Team or one of the Wardens if you need a lift to any of the
services.

Jesus’ command,
‘love one another’ is powerfully symbolised in the washing of feet. We are
drawn to the Upper Room where Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with his
disciples. As the church is stripped bare, the vigil of prayer begins as we
respond to Jesus’ words; ‘could you not watch with me one hour?’ |
| |
A
vigil will be kept until midnight before an altar of repose in all three
churches. |

In great
solemnity we celebrate Christ’s victory over death. Again we hear the
account of the Passion, we revere the cross as the throne of victory and we
share simply in Christ’s gift of his body. |

The ceremonies
of the new fire and Easter candle unite us with the earliest Christians. We
hear the history of our salvation beginning in the Old Testament, renew our
baptismal commitment and share joyfully in the new life of Easter by
receiving the sacrament of Our Lord’s risen body and blood. |
