St Mary's
Epiphany Supper
with entertainment from
Vital Spark
We celebrated the Twelfth Day of Christmas, Epiphany, at a Eucharist in St Mary's at 6:30pm,
followed by a candlelit supper with musical entertainment in church. Tables were placed between the pews in the
side aisles and across the front row to transform the church into a marvellous restaurant where a hot dinner for 80
was served.

One of the perks of being in the catering team is that you get to lick the trifle bowls.
Caught on camera are Mavis and Gill.

Vital Spark
Vital Spark was formed to sing and play what is now called West Gallery music. This
name comes from the galleries which were erected in churches in the 18th century to accommodate the singers and
musicians who were to perform this new style of church music. In St Mary's the West Gallery has been replaced by the
organ pipes! Vital Spark is based in Malvern, Worcestershire, England and most of its members are from the local
folk scene.
This evening they sang and played Christmas carols and music that might have been heard over 200 years ago.

We were all amused by the serpent.
Other instruments they played included the fiddle, concertinas, clarinet and bass clarinet.
