ARCHITECTURAL PERIODS

The dates given here are only approximate as the process of building and developing distinct styles through greater expertise, improved tools, stronger materials or better ideas was gradual; some areas were practising one particular style whilst another area was trying variations of different style. There is a lot of overlap given by authors in both the dates and in the terminology used. Those given here are guidelines only.

Remember, these are styles of architecture and so shape and form rather than period of construction dictate the name.
