St Mary’s:      No service tonight
All Saints’:     No service tonight

PLEASE NOTE on Tuesday 30 December there will be a Eucharist at 10am  in St Nicolas’ but there will NOT be a service in All Saints’ at 8pm.

CHRISTMAS COLLECTIONS
Collections at the carol services, crib services and midnight masses have been divided between church funds and St Stephen’s Children’s Home in Embu, Kenya.  The Revd Maz Allen will be visiting Embu with a group of 30 people leaving just after Christmas.  The money will be added to fund raising to build a health centre there.

EPIPHANY SUPPER
to be held in St Mary’s after the Eucharist on Tuesday 6 January 2009. The service commences at 6.30pm to be followed by the supper. Tickets £7.50  are limited and are available from: Margaret Holman, Gill Wood, Lynda Hodges

FR ANDREW
A coach has been booked to travel to Friars park for Fr Andrew’s welcoming. It will depart from All Saints’ Church at 3.15pm prompt. Cost is £7 each and is payable on the day to one of the wardens. The coach will depart from Friars Park at 8.00pm and arrive back to All Saints’ at approx 9.30pm

PLEASE NOTE that there will be NO 9.30am Eucharist in St Mary’s on Friday 26 December but there will be a Mass at 9.30am in All Saints’ that day.
ALSO on Tuesday 30 December there will be a Eucharist at 10am  in St Nicolas’ but there will NOT be a service in All Saints’ at 8pm.

FR ANDREW
Fr Andrew’s last Sunday is today!  We are running a coach to the Eucharist to welcome him in his new parish of Friar Park, Lichfield Diocese on Sunday 4 January, leaving All Saints’ at 3.30pm. The fare is £7.

YOUTH WORK
Many thanks to all those who have made it a great ‘term’! The Youth Team party is on Monday 22 December 6-8pm at Whitethorn Drive. Youth work restarts from Sunday 11 January. Please pray for all young people that they would know Jesus, God with them, this Christmas.

You are warmly invited to join members of the Chaplaincy and other Cheltenham churches for Carol Singing at our hospitals. Your contribution last year was much appreciated by patients and staff and helped to put the Christ into Christmas.

Wednesday 24 December from 7.00p.m. at Cheltenham General Hospital.

ADVENT CAROL SERVICE
There will be an Advent Carol Service in All Saints’ tonight at 6.30pm.  All are very welcome to attend.  (There will not be a service at 6.30pm in St Mary’s.)

ST NICOLAS’ PATRONAL - 7 DECEMBER
There will be a united Team Eucharist on Sunday, 7 December, to celebrate St Nicolas’ Patronal Festival. There will be said Eucharists as usual at 8am at St Mary’s and All Saints’, and Celebrate! at St Mary’s at 9.30am on that day but no 10.30am service at All Saints’ or 11.00am service at St Mary’s.

CHRISTINGLE

PRAYER GROUP
A new prayer group is starting in Advent on Tuesday 2 December at 8pm in New Barn Lane (near the shop opposite the university). The aim is to spend some time in prayer for the needs of the world and our local area. If you are interested in coming to this please contact Fr Daniel or Ann Nicholson

THE REAL CHRISTMAS – At St Mary’s on Saturday 6 December 2pm – 5pm. Free entry.
Mulled Wine, Christmas Teas, Children’s activities, Carol Singing, Olivewood figures from Bethlehem, ‘Let the Children Live’ Christmas quiz challenge.
It will be a relaxing family afternoon, not just another bazaar! The big Christmas tree will also be decorated. Drop in for a break and a chat.
Profits are split between ‘Let the Children Live’ and Bethlehem children in need this Christmas.

There will be a ‘bucket collection’ in all three churches today for donations to the DR Congo crisis appeal. These will be sent via Christian Aid

THIS EVENING Soul Café meets at the United Reform Church, Deep Street at 6.30pm. There is no service in St Mary’s tonight.

JIM MOORE, RIP
Jim’s Funeral Mass will be on Monday 24 November in St Mary’s at 12 noon. His body will be received at 9am, and there will be no morning Eucharist that day. Morning Prayer will be at 9.30.

ALPHA
The group experiencing the Alpha Course had their last session last Tuesday. We have decided to start the first Alpha Course after Easter. This is so that everyone can give their full attention and energy to the Passion Play and it also gives us the opportunity to prepare thoroughly.

TEAM LUNCH

There will be a ‘bucket collection’ in all three churches today for donations to the DR Congo crisis appeal. These will be sent via Christian Aid

JIM MOORE, RIP
Jim’s Funeral Mass will be on Monday 24 November in St Mary’s at 12 noon. His body will be received at 9am, and there will be no morning Eucharist that day. Morning Prayer will be at 9.30.

FR ANDREW
Fr Andrew’s last Sunday will be 21 December.  He will be with us during Christmas before moving to his new parish in the Lichfield Diocese.  There will be a Eucharist to welcome him in the parish of Friar Park on Sunday 4 January at 5pm.  We are considering running a coach.  Please let one of the Churchwardens know if you would like a seat.  Further details of costs and times will be available soon.

MISSION OPPORTUNITY
It's easy to think that "mission" is always about inviting people to things, but what about going out and meeting people where they are? Fr Daniel will be going to the Royal Oak on Tuesday 18 November at 7.15pm to join a group called "Cafe Society". This group meets every two months to talk about ideas. The next one is entitled "Shop till you drop: Consumerism and its effect on the planet". If you would like to come along, let him know or put your name on the sheet at the back of the church.

Many past and present users of the Hall enjoyed the party last Saturday. Today, Sunday 5 October, there is a service at 6.30pm at St Peter’s to mark the closing of the church. The Bishop of Gloucester will preside, and everyone is invited to attend.  It would be wonderful if as many as possible could show their concern and support for the people at St Peter’s by attending the service.  There will be no evening services in any of our churches on that day.

GLOUCESTER CATHEDRAL
Bishop Michael has invited all of us to an Open Day on Thursday 9 October, 2pm-8pm, in Gloucester Cathedral's Lady Chapel.
This is a great opportunity to meet diocesan staff, to hear more about the work of the diocese, and to let them know how they can serve us better.

RAIN STOPPED PLAY the other weekend as far as "Beating the Bounds" was concerned. However, none of the preparatory work for this event has been wasted and we are hoping to hold it some time next year. Many thanks to all those who put heart and soul into getting it ready.

There will be a Service of Healing today, Sunday 14 September, at All Saints, starting at 6.30pm. This will comprise a special liturgy of healing; and opportunities for anointing, prayer, and laying on of hands for those who wish. Do make a note of this date, and come along to experience the bountiful gifts of God’s healing love.

THE NEW TEAM MINISTRY

PPY is delighted to welcome our newest employee Ryan Martin. He will be starting his role as ‘Team Worker’ with Pittville Youth Action Group, working alongside Sharon Macauly with young people from Pittville School. Please pray for the team as term starts, that we would be able to connect very positively with the young people.

360 SUCCESS
Thanks to all who took part in this summer’s 360 Holiday activities. The focus has been on young people moving up to secondary school and on young leaders. All the different activities (from cooking to raft building, from Soul Survivor Festival to high ropes course) have had whole hearted participation and been very fruitful. Please pray for all those starting new schools, colleges or youth groups at this time.

PPY 360 CONNECT HOLIDAY PROJECT

Soul Survivor is a Christian festival focusing on worship and teaching. A group from PPY is going to Soul Survivor this year – with a particular focus on young leaders. Please pray that all who go will really grow in their relationship with God.

WE WELCOME TO ST MARY’S this morning Bishop John Kato from Japan, who will be preaching at the 11am service. Bishop John is staying in the Diocese until the Lambeth Conference begins on 16 July.

SERVICE OF WELCOME FOR THE LAMBETH BISHOPS
A number of visiting bishops are staying in our Diocese before the Conference and this afternoon, Sunday 13 July, there is a Service of Welcome, Celebration and Prayer for them in the Cathedral at 3pm. Everyone is very welcome to attend the service, where the preacher will be the Bishop of Dornakal, southern India.

175 YEARS OF THE OXFORD MOVEMENT
In celebration and thanksgiving of the anniversary of the Oxford Movement, there will be an hour of silent prayer in St Mary’s from 12pm to 1pm on Monday 14 July, and in All Saints’ from 6.15pm to 7.15pm on the same day. Please come and join us – you don’t need to stay for the whole hour!

FAREWELL TO BRUCE GOODWIN, who has his last day with us today at the end of his four week placement. Our prayers and good wishes go with him into his second year of ordination training.

FR STEPHEN & VICKY GREGORY became grandparents again recently when their daughter Kate and her husband Mike had twin boys, William and Thomas. Although premature and still in hospital, the boys are doing well!

PARISH LUNCH - SUNDAY 20 JULY AT THE ROYAL OAK AT 1.00PM.
There are just a few places left for the next Parish Lunch. The menu will be roast pork for the main course, followed by a sweet to be chosen on the day. There will also be a vegetarian option. THE PREACHER AT ST NICOLAS’ AND ST MARY’S this Sunday is Bruce Goodwin, an ordination student currently on placement with us.

OUR NEW DEACONS will be with us on Sunday morning. A big thank you to all those who organised and contributed to the welcome tea party for them last Sunday.

VISITING BISHOP
The Lambeth Conference takes place in Canterbury from 16 July to 4 August. A number of visiting bishops are staying in our Diocese before the Conference and one of them, Bishop John Kato from Japan, will be guest preacher at St Mary’s on Sunday 13 July. Also on that day, there is a Service of Welcome, Celebration and Prayer for the bishops visiting the Diocese in the Cathedral at 3pm. Everyone is very welcome to attend the service, where the preacher will be the Bishop of Dornakal, southern India.

175 YEARS OF THE OXFORD MOVEMENT
In celebration and thanksgiving of the anniversary of the Oxford Movement, there will be an hour of silent prayer in St Mary’s from 12pm to 1pm on Monday 14 July, and in All Saints’ from 6.15pm to 7.15pm on the same day. Please come and join us – you don’t need to stay for the whole hour!

PARISH LUNCH - SUNDAY 20 JULY AT THE ROYAL OAK AT 1.00PM.
I am now taking bookings for the next Parish Lunch. The menu will be roast pork for the main course, followed by a sweet to be chosen on the day. There will also be a vegetarian option. The cost will be £11.50 per head. If you would like to join us for this relaxed time of fellowship together, please call me, Marion Beagley

PRESTBURY CHURCH FETE - SATURDAY 13 SEPTEMBER, SCOUT FIELD, 2 - 5PM
In each church there is a list of suggestions for stalls and sideshows for this year's fete.
