Four acts, one drama. It is the drama of our
salvation.
Don’t miss it!

| 8.00am | Said Eucharist + Blessing of Palms | St Marys’ |
| 9.30am | Celebrate! | St Mary’s |
| 9.30am | Procession from Wyman’s Brook Shops to | |
| St Nicolas’ for Sung Eucharist | ||
| 10.20am | Procession of cross to URC | St Mary’s |
| 11.00am | Sung Eucharist | St Mary’s |
| The first ‘act’ of the drama draws us to Jerusalem as we recall, perhaps by taking part in a short procession, Jesus’ triumphal entry into the city where, within just a week, he would be put to death. | ||
| Maundy Thursday 1st April | ||
| 7.30pm | Eucharist of the Lord’s Supper | St Nicolas’ |
| Jesus’ command, ‘love one another’ is powerfully symbolised in the washing of feet. The simple Eucharistic celebration draws us to the Upper Room where Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples. As the church is stripped bare, the vigil of prayer begins in both churches as we respond to Jesus’ words; ‘could you not watch with me one hour?’ Sign up to take part in the vigil of prayer in both churches until midnight. | ||
| Good Friday 2nd April | ![]() |
||
| 10.15am | Short service at the cross outside URC in Prestbury | ||
| 10.30am | Devotional Service | St Nicolas’ | |
| 10.30am | Family ‘Celebrate-style’ service | St Mary’s | |
| 2.00pm | Celebration of the Lord’s Passion | St Mary’s | |
| In great solemnity we celebrate Christ’s victory over death. The service is simple and stark because the feeling of Christ’s suffering and death is intense, yet at the same time we know that triumph is near. Again we hear the account of the Passion, we revere the cross as the throne of victory and we share simply in Christ’s gift of his body. | |||
| Holy Saturday 3rd April | ||
| 9.00pm | The Easter Vigil of the Resurrection of the Lord | St Mary’s |
| This is the night of all nights in the year. The ceremonies of the new fire and Easter candle unite us with the earliest Christians, waiting for Christ to break forth from the tomb. We hear the history of our salvation from the Old Testament, renew our own baptismal commitment and share in the new life of Easter by receiving the sacrament of Our Lord’s risen body and blood. | ||
Again this year we will be placing large wooden crosses in prominent positions near our churches. These will form part of our witness to the local community, drawing attention to the significance of the cross for us as Christians, especially at this time of year.
In Prestbury village
Palm Sunday, 28th March. You are invited to join a short procession starting from St Mary’s at 10.20am. The cross will be taken to the United Reformed Chapel in Deep Street where there will be a very short act of worship. Later the cross will be placed outside the Chapel and at night it will be floodlit.
Good Friday, 2nd April. Gather at the cross at 10.15am for a short act of worship. A crown of thorns will be placed on the cross as a reminder of Jesus’ suffering for the world.
On Easter Day the cross will be garlanded with flowers as a symbol of the resurrection; our Lord’s victory over sin and death and our share in his risen life.
At St Nicolas’
Palm Sunday, 28th March.
The cross will be carried as part of the procession from the Wyman’s Brook shops and then placed outside St Nicolas’.
Good Friday, 2nd April. During the Devotional Service at 10am, prayers will be said at the cross. It will be draped with a red cloth and hung with a crown of thorns as a reminder to those who see it of Jesus’ suffering for us all.
Easter Day, 4th April. The cross will be hung with a white cloth as a reminder of our Lord’s victory over death and garlanded with flowers as a symbol of the resurrection.
